5 Common Marketing Mistakes to Avoid for Real Estate Agents

If you are a real estate agent, it's easy to believe that the real estate boom is going to last forever, and keep those referrals coming in like clockwork. But as any historian will tell you, every boom has its bust and every peak has its valley.

This is not to say that you can't be successful no matter what the market outlook looks like. But that's only possible if you avoid the common marketing mistakes that are splattered all over every real estate agent's portfolio.

You might be savvy at face-to-face selling, or at getting those referrals coming in through the door, but in the 21st century, online real estate marketing, which includes social media are the key markers of success.

Have you given your digital marketing strategy a look-see lately? It's not only about talking to buyers face-to-face but about selling to them online. Let's look at 5 ways you might be slipping up on your social media marketing.

1. Stop Spamming Your Followers/Subscribers

It's understandable. You are excited to have an email list or followers on social media and you are sharing everything you can think of.

But don't make the mistake of spamming your subscribers or followers so that they unfollow you and deem you annoying. Once a day is more than enough.

2. Don't Focus on One Strategy

It's easy to presume that you can focus on one marketing strategy and that's more than enough. Most real estate agents will end up focusing on the digital marketing strategy they are most comfortable, and stick to it like glue.

If you do that, you are actually limiting yourself severely. Think about a multi-pronged strategy, where you can use your website, referrals, social media, and physical mailers in a cohesive fashion.

3. Get Your Website Professionally Created

Did you create your website yourself, because it was much cheaper? Well, that could be a problem, considering that most people will leave a website without interacting with it if they find it too old school, hard to navigate, or ugly.

Are you losing out on potential leads because they don't think your website is good enough?

4. Do Not Rely Solely Upon One Social Media Channel

Maybe you are already on Instagram because your children are on it, so you decided to market your real estate work there. But you haven't even looked at the other options yet, because you are too overwhelmed by the idea of it.

Do not fear. Most social media platforms are built to be user friendly, so get on as many as you can.

5. Afraid of Video? Get Over That Fear Fast

The 21st century is the age of video marketing. You might have garnered that already from the explosive success of IGTV, YouTube, and TikTok.

Either way, if you aren't already creating videos of your real estate units to do virtual tours, and putting them online, avoid these common marketing mistakes and get on that!

Common Marketing Mistakes Are Easily Avoidable and Fixed

Did you see yourself in any of the common marketing mistakes above? If you did, don't be disheartened. Most of them are fixable and avoidable.

It's time for you to move into the 21st-century world of digital marketing strategy with a bang.
